Pain Involved
After getting your dentures fixed, it is not uncommon to experience some irritation at the site of denture placement. The question now arises: how much pain should one feel? For how long should you expect to experience such pain? There is no specific answer to these questions as the pain varies from one person to another, and also the type of denture fixed. If you are having permanent dentures, expect to experience pain longer than a patient with removable ones. If you are getting dentures for a second time at the same spot, you might feel more pain than the first time. The other factor that influences the length of pain is if you had missing teeth, or natural teeth had to be removed for the dentures to be placed. If there was an existing gap, then you have less pain to deal with.
Relining Dentures
If your dentures no longer feel fit as before, you may consider relining them. It is not advisable to do-it-yourself. Visit your dentist to decide whether it is really time to reline them. If this is the case they will go ahead to carry out a procedure that may make the dentures feel tighter and a better fit.
Excess Saliva Situation
After your upper dentures have been relined, you may find that the dentures are in a position that hinders the lips from closing and this may result in excess saliva in your mouth. Whenever this situation arises, you can clear your mouth through swallowing. But if swallowing is impaired, or the situation persists for some time, it is advisable that you check with your dentist to have your reline done correctly.
What Are Permanent Dentures?
Do not be misled when you hear the word “permanent”. Dentures are made of durable plastics that are held on by screws or dental cement onto implants. The word permanent appears because they can’t be removed by the patients but only by the dentists. It is important to note that, even if they are permanent, they can’t have the same characteristics as natural teeth, they can’t last forever as they wear out with time.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE DENTURES FIXED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TEETH REMOVAL?
Immediate Dentures

Sometimes, there may arise complications while removing teeth and your gums may need some time to heal to avoid excessive pains when fixing the dentures.
Color Matching your Partial Dentures and Natural Teeth
It is important to choose dentures that match the color of your natural teeth so that they can fit naturally in your mouth. If your existing denture becomes stained, it is advisable to replace it instead of recoloring it as the costs may be the same.
