WHAT IS COSMETIC DENTISTRY?

Cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty, because cosmetic dentistry does not have a specific treatment area. Unlike endodontists, who specialize in treatment of tooth root conditions and in the performance of complicated root canal procedures, you can’t specifically describe what it is a cosmetic dentist is or does differently than another dentist. Cosmetic dentistry is not a dental specialty, it’s a dental philosophy. Because cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty, a dentist is not allowed to advertise that he is a perfectionist.

But like perfectionism, the philosophy of cosmetic dentistry is clearly visible when you evaluate dentists. When you talk to a dentist about how he performs a dental crown procedure, when he evaluates the condition of your teeth, and when you look at his before and after images, everything about the dentist’s practice shines with a cosmetic sheen. Cosmetic dentistry is like true love: science may dispute its existence, but when you experience it, you believe it’s real.
