If you’re finding yourself suffering with snoring, difficulty sleeping, or even losing your breath while sleeping, you may have a condition known as sleep apnea. Those in the Barrie, Ontario area that are struggling with sleep apnea can find relief from the skilled dentists at the Molsen Park Dental Office.
Sleep apnea can be caused by a variety of factors, but in nearly all cases, snoring and difficulty sleeping are associated with the condition. Sometimes, you may even experience a complete cessation of breathing while sleeping, which can be extremely dangerous to your health.
There are two main types of sleep apnea that are known as obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is more common and causes the complete inability to breathe at certain times during sleep, while central sleep apnea occurs because your brain doesn’t send the proper signals to your muscles to breathe.

- Being overweight
- Having too small of an airway
- Genetics
- Gender
- Age

Central sleep apnea can be caused by the following:
- Gender, as men are twice as likely to suffer from sleep apnea
- Being older than 65
