SNORING AND OTHER SYMPTOMS OF SLEEP APNEA

Regular snoring is one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea. However, snoring alone is not always an indicator of sleep apnea.

If you or a loved one suffers from the effects of chronic snoring, the Barrie dentists at Chapnick Dental Office can assess the source and recommend a treatment option or refer you for further testing at a sleep center. Please call us at (416) 568-0687 to schedule your appointment.

Because many sleep apnea symptoms—such as loud, regular snoring—occur during sleep, it is often sleeping partners or family members who notice them. Other symptoms of sleep apnea include, but are not limited to:

  • Inability to sleep through the night
  • Waking up choking or gasping for air
  • Restlessness during sleep
  • Regular daytime drowsiness
  • Morning headaches
  • Waking up with a sore throat or dry mouth

Snoring and sleep apnea can often be treated with the use of a custom-made oral appliance, even when they are experienced independently of one another. If you believe you or a loved one may have sleep apnea, it’s advisable to undergo evaluation and, if necessary, treatment.

If not treated, the most common form of sleep apnea—obstructive sleep apnea—can contribute to an increased risk for a number of severe health problems including stroke, hypertension, heart attack and cardiac arrhythmia.

If you would like to learn more about treatment options for sleep apnea and snoring, please contact Chapnick Dental Office to schedule your consultation. We welcome patients from the greater Barrie, Ontario, area.
