JAW ALIGNMENT AND THE REST OF YOUR BODY

The human body is a complex, inter-connected system. Problems in one area can spread throughout your body. Residents of the Barrie area suffering from chronic tension headaches should know that their problems might be caused by a condition known as temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD/TMJ.
With TMJ, problems with your jaw alignment can cause a bevy of health problems, the most prominent of which are headaches.
The temporomandibular joint is the hinge joint connecting your jaw to your skull. Place your fingers in front of your ears and open and close your mouth: you are now feeling your temporomandibular joint.
Because this joint lies at a crucial intersection of bones, muscles, ligaments and nerves, problems in that area tend to not to stay there. If your jaw is misaligned, that will cause irritation and inflammation in the joint. That inflammation is what we call TMJ, and it’s what causes TMJ headaches.
Aside from headaches, TMJ/TMD can cause:
- Facial pain
- Upper back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Insomnia
These problems are serious, but they can be addressed by the experienced dentists at Chapnick Dental Office.
