HEALING TIME FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants offer the only permanent solution for missing teeth. Although medical and technological advances have helped dental implants become more natural-looking and durable, the ability of a dental implant to provide lifelong stability comes largely from the process of osseointegration.
Osseointegration is the process in which the dental implant bonds with your jaw bone, effectively becoming part of the bone structure. The process of osseointegration helps establish dental implants as permanent, but it does not happen overnight.
Implant Placement
To place your dental implant, a small hole will be made in your jaw bone. The titanium screw that will anchor your replacement tooth and serve as the “root” will then be inserted into the hole.
This titanium “root” will then be capped as you wait for your gums heal and the process of osseointegration to take its course. The dental implant’s fusing with your jaw bone can take anywhere from two to six months.
Crown Placement
After your implant has sufficiently united with your jaw, you will come back to our office for crown placement. Your permanent crown will be shaped and coloured to precisely match adjacent teeth.
The process for complete placement of dental implants can take up to eight months. However, modern dental implants provide a permanent, natural-looking solution for missing teeth.
