CORRECTING OVERBITE WITH INVISALIGN®

Overbite is difficult to conceal, but the condition itself can hide the early stages of serious dental problems.

Marked by the upper teeth biting over the lower teeth, overbite is often hereditary but can also be the result of long-term poor oral health habits such as pen chewing, tongue thrusting or thumb sucking. Untreated, overbite can contribute to chipped or fractured teeth, gum disease and jaw problems such as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD).

One option for the discreet correction of overbite is Invisalign, a series of clear, plastic aligners custom-fit to your individual bite condition. For the right candidates, Invisalign offers the benefits of traditional metal braces with few of the drawbacks.

To determine if Invisalign is a suitable solution to your individual bite condition, you will first need to consult with an Invisalign provider, like the Toronto dentists at the Chapnick Dental Office. If Invisalign will provide an effective correction for your bite, we will outline a treatment plan and use a series of digital images and teeth impressions to create your custom aligners.

Invisalign aligners gently shift your teeth into the correct position, typically within 12 months of daily use of 20 to 22 hours per day. Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for meals. There are no limits on the types of foods you can eat.

The aligners are also easy to clean and can be replaced should they become lost or damaged. There are no painful adjustments required. You simply change your progressive series of aligners every two weeks.

Invisalign, as its name suggests, is also virtually invisible as the transparent aligners gradually transform your overbite into a properly aligned smile.
