CAN TMJ CAUSE TINNITUS?

Tinnitus refers to any ringing or buzzing in the ears. It may be temporary or consistent, high-pitched or low, and may or may not be accompanied by pain. Commonly a result of colds and ear infection, TMJ is also a possible cause of tinnitus.

If you are experiencing tinnitus along with other symptoms of TMJ, please call Barrie dentist Dr. Adam Chapnick at (647) 504-4407 to schedule a neuromuscular evaluation today.

Ear pressure and pain can be caused by pressure on the trigeminal nerve – the largest nerve in the cranium. Jaw misalignment places pressure on this nerve, which may result in tinnitus along with other painful and aggravating sensations.

When TMJ is the cause of tinnitus, restoring alignment to the jaw can be an effective course of treatment. Dr. Chapnick offers a range of physiologic dentistry treatment options including oral splints and mouthguards to help realign the jaw, release pressure on the trigeminal nerve, and eliminate symptoms like tinnitus for good.

To schedule your neuromuscular evaluation with Dr. Chapnick, please contact Chapnick Dental Office online or by calling (647) 504-4407 today. Based in Barrie, we welcome patients from all surrounding areas of Ontario.
