WHAT IS “OSSEOINTEGRATION?”
When it comes to dental implants, general dentistry relies in no small part on your body’s natural mechanisms for dealing with foreign bodies. Barrie-area patients who receive dental implants can see them last for decades, thanks in no small part to a process known as “osseointegration.”
This is the process by which the bone structure in your body accepts or integrates an implanted device. In the case of dental implants, this device is the titanium support root of a dental implant.
The process was initially discovered and chronicled by a Swedish scientist in the 1950’s, and it has revolutionized general dentistry and implant dentistry in particular. Because of it, our Barrie dentists can provide you with a strong foundation for your replacement teeth.
Over the course of several months, your jawbone will slowly work to integrate the titanium support into its bone structure. The bone will essentially “grow around” the implant, firmly rooting it in the area.
This process does not require any nearby soft tissue.
Once osseointegration has been completed, you will return to Chapnick Dental Office for a dental crown to place on top of the titanium support.
If you’re a resident of the Barrie, Ontario area and wish to learn how general dentistry and osseointegration can replace a missing tooth, please contact The Chapnick Dental Office today.
