GUM THERAPY BARRIE

Barrie dentist, Dr. Adam Chapnick, offers our patients several options for gum therapy. The therapy you require will be dependent on the type of disease being treated and the extent of damage that has already been done. Early detection is key to effective therapy, making biannual visits to our office for dental cleanings and examinations incredibly important for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

Types of Gum Therapy

If it is determined that you have gum disease during your regularly scheduled visits, or if you suffer any of the symptoms of gum disease in between visits, Dr. Chapnick can begin working on a customized treatment plan right away. Commonly, mild cases can be treated with antibacterial mouthwashes and increased at-home teeth cleaning. Other options for treatment include:

  • Scaling to remove plaque and tarter along and below the gum line
  • Root planning to smooth the surface of your teeth making it difficult for plaque to attach
  • Oral antibiotics to eliminate infection

In some cases, tooth extraction and replacement with dental implants of bridges is the only option. We attempt the most conservative treatment possible at first, but extraction is not always avoidable, particularly in cases where gum disease has become extreme. To avoid extraction, be sure to visit our office for biannual cleanings and examinations, and to contact us immediately if you begin to notice signs of gum disease.
