An infected (abscessed) tooth may be more sensitive to hot and cold. Pain and increased sensitivity when eating are also common with an infected tooth. If you are experiencing either of these issues, it is best to call Barrie/Toronto endodontist, Dr. Adam Chapnick at (877) 606-6462 right away to schedule a thorough examination.
Not Always Painful
Tooth infections are not always painful. Additional symptoms that should be brought to the attention of Dr. Chapnick include:
An abscess may also result in fever, nausea, or a general sense of discomfort. Particularly when paired with other symptoms of tooth infection, these issues should prompt a call to Dr. Chapnick for an endodontic evaluation.
Treating an Abscessed Tooth
Tooth infections are treated with root canal therapy. This procedure allows our Dr. Chapnick to remove infection and debris from the inside of the tooth and helps prevent the need for extraction. Depending on your specific needs, your root canal may be completed during a single office visit; but deep infection often requires at least two. Dr. Chapnick will discuss what you can expect during your initial endodontic evaluation.
Endodontic treatment is no more invasive than a typical dental filling. However, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of a root canal, we can discuss options such as mild sedation to help you feel relaxed and at ease throughout your entire visit.
