What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a virtually invisible method of straightening your teeth. It is the most preferred alternative to metal braces for people who do not want to go through the embarrassment and discomfort of wearing metal braces on their teeth. During this orthodontic treatment, patients are fitted with removable, clear aligners that have been specifically designed to fit their teeth. The aligners are smooth and comfortable and place a subtle amount of tension on a patient’s teeth allowing them to move and properly align teeth to the desired position.

Over time, patients can interchange the aligner for about 2 weeks for a period of 6 months or longer to allow for more progress. The period to properly align teeth depends on the severity of misalignment. This custom-made aligner is usually computer generated from a mold of the patient’s teeth. This technique is usually carried out by a dentist or an orthodontist to ensure that the fitting is unique to each patient. The patient is expected to move from one aligner in the series to the next to properly align teeth for a beautiful smile.

What Can I Expect When Starting Invisalign?

Due to the unique circumstances of each patient, it may be wise to consult with Dr. Adam Chapnick. During the appointment, Adam and his professional team will take dental x-rays and perform other examinations to determine if Invisalign treatment is right for you. Dr. Chapnick will then use this information to determine the alignment of your teeth and your current health. He will also decide if you’re a good candidate and determine the outcome you can expect.

If you’ve been given the go-ahead, Dr. Adam Chapnick will fill out a prescription which will be sent to a lab. The dental team will then begin working on clear aligners that will be perfectly designed to fit your teeth. After the finished aligners arrive, the team will ensure that they are comfortable and they fit you well. From there, we will carefully take you through the simple treatment process and closely monitor your progress.

Some of the common dental problems that can be corrected with Invisalign are:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overjets
  • Mild bite problems (overbite, underbite, open bite or crossbite)

Are You a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

As you may know, Invisalign is at the forefront of cosmetic dentistry and can be used to treat almost any orthodontic issue. However, they are not always a viable choice for all teeth straightening needs. They can only be best used to correct mild to moderate alignment problems. For patients whom their teeth are very misaligned, have one tooth overlapping another or have serious orthodontic issues they may need metal braces or other cosmetic dentistry techniques.

Dr. Adam Chapnick can help you address any orthodontic problem that is keeping you from being a good candidate for Invisalign. Through experience from his many years of dental practice, Dr. Chapnick will help you determine an aesthetic dentistry plan that will allow you to receive the highest level of Invisalign treatment available today.

Benefits of Choosing Clear Aligners Over Metal Braces

Improved Appearance

The Invisalign straightening treatment process can help you achieve the stunning smile you’ve always dreamt of leaving you with the straight, aligned teeth you’ve always desired. Did you know that even subtle changes in alignment can improve the look of your smile? Well, this can greatly boost your self-esteem and give you happiness.

Better Oral Health

Teeth that are misaligned leave more areas in which food particles can accumulate and become difficult to remove. This can be good breeding grounds for bacteria and plague. When your teeth are straight and have no gaps between them, it will be easier to brush and floss more effectively.

Comfort and Discretion

Invisalign are more comfortable than metal braces. You can smile and talk normally and nobody will notice that you’re wearing anything. Invisalign will save you the embarrassment and discomfort experienced when wearing bulky metal braces. However, you may experience a slight feeling of pressure on your teeth as they are being realigned.

Ease of Cleaning and Maintenance

If you are wearing Invisalign, keeping them clean is much easier. You just remove the aligner when eating, brushing, and flossing. When you finish, you just put your aligner back into place. This will make it easy for you to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy.

Our daughter was 5 weeks old when she had a frenectomy done at Molson Park Dental and we couldn’t be happier with the experience and end results. The entire team was so friendly and did such a wonderful job keeping me at ease during the procedure. Also, our daughter started nursing 100 times better immediately after the procedure was done. We can’t thank you enough for allowing us to continue our breastfeeding journey pain free and allowing our daughter the ability to nurse efficiently :)
