What are Partial Dentures?

Missing teeth can create frustrations such as eating difficulties, cosmetic concerns, and speech issues. Several missing teeth become more troublesome. If you have these issues, you may consider partial dentures. They are meant to replace one or more missing teeth. Unlike full dentures that replace all the teeth in your mouth, partial dentures replace only the missing teeth.

Partial dentures or other teeth replacement alternatives?

If you’re in crossroads while deciding to use partial dentures or other teeth replacement alternatives, you should understand that you have limited options. If you need a smile makeover Barrie, you should focus on choosing a tooth replacement method that suits your budget and needs.

Keep in mind that the most important thing is to fill in the gap or space left by the missing teeth before the nearby tooth starts drifting into that space. Once the nearby teeth move to occupy the space, your smile, biting or chewing abilities, and the functionality of your jawbone will change.

A professional dentist Barrie will advise you to opt for dental implants. They are considered the best missing teeth replacement option for all patients. A dentist will place the implant in your jawbone for the most stable and secure fit of all teeth replacement options. Besides, implants allow you to eat any food and preserve your jawbone just like your natural teeth.

Dentists use dental bridges to place the replacement tooth or teeth in between your natural teeth. In some cases, the dentist will reduce the size of your natural teeth to ensure that the dental bridge fits over them securely while the ‘artificial’ tooth sits in the space left by the fallen tooth. While this is another teeth replacement option, it requires the size reduction of your natural teeth to fit the available dental bridge. Dental implants don’t require this reduction.

If you wear it continuously, a partial denture will always hold the space left by the fallen tooth. Keep in mind that if you remove the denture and stay without it for a long time, the nearby teeth may start shifting to occupy the empty space. If that happens, your partial denture will not fit properly, and that may require you to revisit the dentist. In worst cases, your smile and the ability to bite and chew will be significantly affected.

Another crucial factor you should always consider is that a partial denture, just like dental bridges won’t prevent bone loss or stimulate your jawbone. But a dental implant can prevent bone loss in the area of the missing tooth or teeth. While dental implants are believed to be more expensive than partial dentures and dental bridges, they are durable, enhance your confidence, preserve jawbone, and allow you to eat any type of food.

If you have one or more missing teeth, be sure to consult with a certified Barrie dentist about the most appropriate teeth replacement options. The dentist will help you understand different options, and you will be in a better position to make the right choice.

Our daughter was 5 weeks old when she had a frenectomy done at Molson Park Dental and we couldn’t be happier with the experience and end results. The entire team was so friendly and did such a wonderful job keeping me at ease during the procedure. Also, our daughter started nursing 100 times better immediately after the procedure was done. We can’t thank you enough for allowing us to continue our breastfeeding journey pain free and allowing our daughter the ability to nurse efficiently :)
