Tooth Crown Work
Barrie, Ontario - Canada
You only get one set of permanent teeth. When you have a dental problem that threatens to cause the loss of a tooth, it is important to do everything possible to protect your tooth structure and avoid future problems. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Adam Chapnick can provide you with natural-looking tooth crowns to keep your teeth healthy and functional.
Reasons for Tooth Crowns
Tooth crowns are also called caps because they are custom made to fit over your entire tooth. Tooth crowns are used to:
- Save a tooth that has been severely damaged by decay or trauma
- Add strength and function to a tooth that is worn down, cracked or broken
- Provide anchors for a dental bridge
- Act as a replacement tooth on a dental implant
- Make damaged teeth look more aesthetically pleasing
Types of Tooth Crowns
As with most cosmetic dental procedures at Molson Park Dental Office, we offer you different options when it comes to tooth crowns. After analyzing the condition of your teeth, Dr. Chapnick will make a recommendation on how he feels you should proceed with treatment; then the two of you will make a decision.
Your tooth crown options include:
- Porcelain tooth crowns: Dr. Chapnick uses Empress® ceramic material and e.max® ZirCAD porcelain dental crowns with a zirconia lining because they provide a very natural appearance.
- Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns: This option can be more durable than all-porcelain tooth crowns and is a good alternative for back teeth. One drawback is that the metal framework of the natural-looking porcelain crown can become exposed along the gum line over time.
Full metal crowns using material are typically not used today because they are so obtrusive in your smile. The goal is to make your tooth crown look natural rather than stand out.
The Art of Tooth Crowns
If you have a dental condition that requires a tooth crown, do not trust this dental work to just any dentist. Dr. Chapnick is highly trained and experienced in the artistry required to fit you with a perfect tooth crown and can explain to you exactly how dental crowns are made. Depending on the extent of damage to your tooth, he may need to remove a precise amount of tooth enamel so the tooth crown will not be too bulky in your smile. He will also have the dental laboratory craft your tooth crown to the exact size, shape and color to blend with your existing teeth.
