Mouthguards

Barrie, Ontario - Canada

Losing your baby teeth is an exciting and monumental event in a young person’s life. But we all know that the tooth fairy does not visit you after you lose an adult tooth. You only get one shot at your adult teeth, so it is important to do everything possible to protect them from injury. Mouthguards have become a popular and indispensable way to shield your teeth from harm.

Cosmetic dentist Dr. Adam Chapnick can fit you with a custom-made mouthguard to meet your specific teeth protection needs. At Molson Park Dental Office we do not recommend the mouthguards you can purchase at drugstores and sporting goods stores because they will not comfortably and effectively fit the contours of your teeth and mouth. Even if you have braces or restorative dental work, custom mouthguards can be designed to give you the cushioning protection your teeth, jaw, and mouth need.

Uses for Mouthguards

Mouthguards are probably best known for providing protection for your teeth during contact or even non-contact sports. People of all ages and athletes of all skill levels should treat mouthguards as essential protective gear, just as important as helmets and other protective pads.

Mouthguards are also used:

  • To eliminate the tooth and jaw joint damage caused by tooth grinding (bruxism) at night
  • To enhance your physical performance during sports, as with the Pure Power Mouthguards
  • To eliminate sleep apnea by repositioning your lower jaw during sleep
  • To help keep your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in alignment and lessen or eliminate the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)

Caring for Your Mouthguard

You can keep your mouthguard in its best physical condition by taking a few minutes to clean it after every use with a toothbrush and toothpaste or with soapy water. Air-drying your mouthpiece is preferred, but if you must transport it immediately, use the special container provided.

Avoid exposing your mouthpiece to extreme temperatures, whether from water or external elements. If your mouthpiece becomes damaged or uncomfortable, be sure to have it checked by your dentist before using it further.
