Lumineers ®

Barrie, Ontario - Canada

Dental veneers can transform your smile from one that makes you self-conscious to one you feel proud to showcase. There are different types of porcelain veneers available today. Lumineers are one popular option available at Molson Park Dental Office. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Adam Chapnick is certified in the Lumineers® procedure, and he can help you determine whether this procedure or Empress veneers are right for you.

Lumineers Procedure

The Lumineers procedure is much the same as any porcelain veneer procedure. During the first office visit, Dr. Chapnick will take an impression of the teeth to be corrected with little to no removal of your tooth enamel. This mold will be sent to the Lumineers dental laboratory so precisely fitted porcelain veneers can be created for your individual smile. You will have input into deciding exactly what tooth color to use in creating your Lumineers so they will look just like your natural teeth.

When your Lumineers are ready, you will return to the office a second time to have the Lumineers inspected to make sure they are the right color, size and shape. You can leave the office that day with your problem teeth a distant memory.

Advantages of Lumineers

Lumineers are preferred by some patients for several reasons:

  • Lumineers are one of the thinnest dental veneers on the market. This makes it possible for Dr. Chapnick to apply them on problem teeth without having to remove any tooth enamel, in most cases.
  • It is usually not necessary to receive local anesthesia during the Lumineers process because it is a painless procedure.
  • Even though they are ultra-thin, they are still very strong and durable and have been reported to last more than 20 years.
  • No dental drilling is required.

Disadvantages of Lumineers

Not everyone is a good candidate for Lumineers. If you have serious teeth discolorations, Lumineers may not be able to effectively cover your problem areas because they are so thin. Dr. Chapnick actually prefers Empress veneers because he feels they offer more control over the dental veneer process.

Some patients feel that Lumineers make their teeth look too bulky because little to no tooth enamel is removed prior to placement. Dr. Chapnick is trained to recognize tooth structures that may not be a good match for Lumineers. He will share his concerns with you and make recommendations on alternatives to Lumineers if necessary. Regardless of his recommendations, you always make the final decision in your dental care at Molson Park Dental Office.
