Teeth Cleaning Barrie - Dentist North York - Teeth Cleaning
Barrie, Ontario - Canada
At Molson Park Dental Office, our goal is to make your mouth as immaculate as possible. Our entire team of dental professionals focuses on this goal before we implement any type of cosmetic dentistry procedures on your teeth. Dr. Adam Chapnick has four superb dental hygienists who perform thorough teeth cleanings to keep your teeth free from plaque build-up and your gums free from disease. Prevention of serious dental problems is our objective, so every dental hygiene visit is completely customized to you.
If you are a person with good dental health, Dr. Chapnick recommends a "standard" hygiene process with dental visits every six months. This timeframe allows for the dental hygienist to provide comprehensive preventative dental care by:
- Taking digital x-rays of your teeth once a year or more often if necessary to look for tooth decay or abnormalities
- Removing plaque and tartar deposits from all areas of your teeth
- Applying fluoride treatment to each of your teeth
- Looking for signs of tooth decay or gum disease
- Inspecting your mouth for signs of disease, such as oral cancer
Gum Disease and Dental Visits
There are different stages of gum disease. Depending on the severity of your gum disease, Dr. Chapnick will recommend that you begin a "perio program" to take care of the problem. It may be necessary for you to visit our office every few months or even more often for treatments such as:
- Scaling to remove bacteria from between your teeth and gums all the way down to the root of your teeth
- Root planing to smooth the surface of the root
- Chemical methods, such as antibacterial rinses
Your Role in Dental Hygiene
Dentists and dental hygienists cannot be expected to carry the burden of your good dental health alone. It is your responsibility to take an active role in your own dental hygiene at home by brushing your teeth at least two times every day and flossing once a day. If you are undergoing a special treatment, such as Invisalign to straighten your teeth, it will be necessary to brush after every meal or snack before you put your aligner trays back into your mouth.
There are other considerations you should be aware of, including:
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
- Brush gently and properly by holding the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle toward your gums and cover all surface areas of your teeth
- Brush your tongue to remove bad breath-causing bacteria
- Floss gently between each set of teeth and around the back teeth, curving around the tooth at the gum line in a curved motion
